ABOUT ORGANIZATION
Evolution:
Action for Rural Technology (ART) is a registered Non-Governmental Voluntary Organization. ART was established under visionary leadership of Late Shri Madhukar Dhas and Mr Mansur Khorasi in 2005 and since then it is functional with support from like-minded individuals. ART is engaged in generation of Natural Resource Management based technologies relevant to rural areas and its dissemination putting focus on creating environment for rural communities to secure a sustainable livelihood and restoring ecology. It believes in Empowering community to create sustainable livelihood through need based innovative interventions based on local resources with equity and active participation of community.
AREA OF OPERATION AND OUTREACH
ART works in four distressed districts of Vidarbha Region of Maharashtra State they are Yavatmal, Amravati, Akola, Wardha, Chandrapur and Gadchiroli. ART has touched the lives of 18184 beneficiaries spread across 341 villages since its inception.

EXPERTISE
- 1. NRM & Irrigation Infrastructure Development
ART has developed low cost and eco-friendly rainwater harvesting solutions at micro and macro level. One of the most successful models is diversion-based irrigation model largely used for protective irrigation of Kharif crop mainly in Vidarbha Region and secondly most successful and widely adopted by farming community is Doha model that rejuvenate the streams (Doha is a series of ponds constructed along the stream to harvest rainwater).
- 2. Climate Resilient Agriculture Solutions
ART has developed eco-friendly and climate resilient agriculture solutions those have been widely adopted by the farming community. It includes dissemination of Standard package of practices (PoP), promoting LEISA / Zero budget Natural Farming Practices and climate smart Agriculture Practices
MAJOR ACHIEVEMENT
Since inception, ART has successfully implemented various rural development projects focused on enhancing livelihood of marginal farmers through irrigation infrastructure development and Agriculture Knowledge Enhancement.
Given below are the details of few notable projects:
- 1. Phad Irrigation Project developed in 12 villages from 4 blocks of Yavatmal district with financial assistance from CINI CELL, Tata Trust. This is a low-cost irrigation method in which flowing water of Nalla is diverted to the nearby field adopting laws of gravity. This facility has benefitted around 446 farmers and providing irrigation to 1115 acres of agriculture land.
- 2. Generated Doha and Bodi Phad technology and facilitated NGO's for its construction
- 3. Promoted 751 SHGs in Yavatmal and Babulgaon block of Yavatmal district. The project covers 8063 families spread over 102 villages by providing bank loans amounting to ₹ 123 lakhs till March,2019.
- 4. Helped 3,000 farmers for adopting LIESA pattern under Better Cotton Initiatives and later on for developing Producer Company.
- 5. Prepared Village Development Plan (DPR) based on NRM in coordination with NABARD and WORLD VISION.
- 6. Disseminated Shivansh Khad Technology in 204 villages in Vidarbha covering 6,675 farmers who also used the product in their 10012 acres of agricultural crop in 2017-18 and 2018-19 crop years.
- 7. Provided support to 610 distressed farmers from Vidarbha and Marathwada regions.
NETWORK APPROACH
ART is the lead agency in dissemination of Shivansh Khad promotion initiatives, offering leadership to 12 field partner organizations. The Shivansh Khad technology has been reached out to around 21,000 Nos. of farmers from Akola, Yavatmal, Wardha, Gadchiroli and Amravati districts of Maharashtra.
NEXT FIVE-YEAR PLAN
ART aims to reach out to 51000 households in six districts of Vidharbha and Marathwada Region in the next 5 years.
